This holiday season, our family here at InsuranceHub decided to do something to give back to the community. We wanted to share some holiday joy by supporting a cause dear to our hearts, the Home of Hope at Gwinnett Children’s Shelter. The nonprofit is dedicated to helping homeless children and their mothers in the Gwinnett County area, and they also help young women who age out of the foster system at 18. The Home of Hope at Gwinnett Children’s Shelter doesn’t just provide a safe, nurturing home for the families – they help the mothers by creating customized life plans with them and giving them the tools they need to get on the path to independence.
For the holidays, we decided to “adopt” two families. That means that these families (consisting of mothers with their young children) provided the Home of Hope at Gwinnett Children’s Shelter with wish lists for the holidays. Then those lists were given to us, and we’re in charge of bringing in those items so we can give these families a spectacular holiday. Our strategy is divide and conquer – our employees selected a few items on the list each and together we’ll check everything off. The goal is to help these families have a wonderful holiday and receive some lovely gifts.
Jim Lloyd, our president, has long stressed the importance of being involved in the community and the importance of corporate responsibility. It’s a philosophy that has spread throughout the entire agency and to all of Team InsuranceHub. Part of giving back to the community for all of us is demonstrating an ongoing commitment to the Home of Hope at Gwinnett Children’s Shelter.
Three years ago, InsuranceHub (in conjunction with the nonprofit) launched the Sip & Swine BBQ Festival, which is an annual barbeque competition that raises money specifically for the Home of Hope at Gwinnett Children’s Shelter. In the three years since the event has started, it’s raised over $150,000 for the nonprofit. The entire agency gets involved with the event every year, with our team members heading out to volunteer at the festival.
But Sip & Swine is in March, and it occurred to us that we didn’t have to wait that long to lend some support to the Home of Hope at Gwinnett Children’s Shelter. We really wanted to spread some holiday cheer this season, and we hope that all of the families at the shelter experience plenty of joy and happiness. InsuranceHub might be an agency that has clients all over the country, but we’re always looking for ways to help out in our local community. We’re so happy to be part of such a worthy cause, and it puts smiles on our faces and a spring in our steps to know that we’re sending some joy and positivity out into the world.
